Spring vacation destinations

Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year, it’s a time of the year that is fresh. Winter has come to an end and we are looking forward to the sunshine of summer. What better time of the year to blow the cobwebs of winter away than to go on a small spring vacation or holiday as we call them in the UK. Living in Great Britain we don’t have to go far to spend a few days away, or even a week or two. One of the best places to go to for a vacation is a place called the Lake District. The Lake District is not as big as some of the places over the pond, and the lakes are certainly not as big as some that I have seen in America and Canada, but they have a certain worldly charm. After all this is the place that the great poet Wordsworth penned his poem about the Daffodils.

You can still see his house from were he used to wander from, along with one more famous person that wrote, for this is the place where Beatrix Potter wrote her story’s for children from, you can just see her writing her story’s as she sits in her garden and sees the small animals that she wrote about.Oh yes the lakes are a magical place at any time of the year, but in spring when the daffodils are in flower, well that is the icing on the cake.

But there is one more magical place to visit in spring in the UK and that is a vacation in York. A city that has history that goes way back in time, on misty day in spring just as the warmth of the sun is starting to warm the ground you can look out over the River Ouse and think that you can see the Roman soldiers marching through the streets, it’s only a figment of your imagination, or is. York is a wonderful place to visit walk through the Shambles, a warren of small medieval streets with quaint little shops that date back to the 1500’s. And no vacation or holiday to York would be complete with out a visit to the famous York Minster. Built by the Normans this is one of the finest Gothic Cathedrals in the world, and standing just out side it is the statue of Constantine the only Roman Emperor to be crowned Emperor outside Rome, and where was he crowned why no other place than York.

Walk just around the corner from the Minster and you will come across a small street, as you walk down this street look at some of the houses, you will see that some are very old, and that is because they are, they are the oldest house’s in Great Britain dating way back to the 14 century, I wonder if some of the modern houses will still be standing in six hundred years from now.

There is no better place to visit to have a small or long vacation than the Lake District and York in Great Britain. Some say that if you visit these places you must visit in summer, well that maybe right after all the sun will be shining and all the flowers will be out. But these two place both so utterly different has its own special magic in spring. Why not come over and see for yourselves what I am saying? I know that you will not be disappointed.
